NFL Week 15 teaser best bets: Spread, total and primetime teaser picks from proven NFL expert
Mike Tierney shares the spreads and totals you should be looking to tease in Week 15.
'Tis the season of the year when handicapping should include a peek at weather forecasts. Extreme cold, high winds and precipitation can weigh on games, especially with the totals as conditions can impede scoring. To be clear, harsh weather can influence outcomes year-round, but it can be particularly impactful when winter sets in.
Websites such as nflweather.com list the outlook for all games. Bear in mind that some are not updated regularly, so double-check info at a weather-specific site like Accuweather.com.
Fully half of the Week 15 card involve host teams with roof-less stadiums in cities where sunbathing is uncommon in mid-December. As of Thursday afternoon, the forecasts are chilly but football-friendly, with temperatures at all but one between the mid-20s and low 50s. (The exception, oddly, is Denver, which expects balmy 50s.)
Projected winds top out at 15 mph, and only Cleveland might get rainfall -- a light one at that. Any snow? No.
Read on to see if weather plays a factor in our teaser proposals.Â
Totals teaser: Cowboys-Giants Under 50.5, Panthers-Bills Under 50.5
The weekend's most challenging weather -- high 30s and forceful winds -- could prey on the Cowboys-Giants encounter. Both offenses are frigid, too. With QB Dak Prescott's passes off-target, Dallas games have reached 50 once in the past seven outings. QB Mike Glennon draws the short straw as Giants starter for the third straight week. Under him, the offense scored one TD through nearly eight quarters before adding a pair in mop-up time.
Carolina-Buffalo draws the same number and, like our earlier pick, involves at least one offense stuck in ice. After an impressive opener, Cam Newton has been a bust in his resurrection, though the absence of RB Christian McCaffrey eases the blame on the Panthers QB. The Bills' standout defense could keep the visitors in single digits. Buffalo could play conservatively to protect QB Josh Allen (foot), thus tamping down scoring.Â
