I think everyone would agree that the Jets and Texans are two of the worst three teams in the league. Some might have them as No. 31 and No. 32, while others would probably mix in Detroit, and maybe Jacksonville pushes one of those three out of the No. 30 spot as well. But there's no disagreement that you can't get much worse than the Jets and Texans.
And yet, both teams beat the current No. 1 seed in the AFC, the Tennessee Titans. I mean, what?
You don't need much other than that to explain how topsy-turvy the NFL has been this year, with presumed Super Bowl favorites Kansas City and Buffalo looking uneven all year; with Tennessee sandwiching losses to the Jets and Texans in between wins over both those teams plus the Rams, Colts and Saints; with the Cardinals emerging from NFC West afterthought to best team in the division and maybe even the league, even while having to start their backup quarterback.
Last week, I was cautious about how much to upgrade the Chiefs after one week of looking like themselves. At this point, the defense is undeniably great and can probably account for any issues the offense is dealing with in a particular week. I'm less optimistic about the Bills, who went from Super Bowl favorites to an uphill fight to win the division in only a few weeks. And I have no idea what to do with the Titans, which suffered negative turnover regression in one fell swoop but still look pretty strong defensively.
