Caesars Sportsbook is rolling out more 2022 NFL season props by the day now that the exhibition schedule is underway. The season-long player prop that has drawn the most money at the book thus far is Under 5.5 rushing touchdowns scored (-175) by Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders. It hasn't received a single Over bet (+145) yet.
Sanders was a 2019 second-round pick out of Penn State, meaning he's playing for a potential contract this season as a pending unrestricted free agent. His best season was in 2019 when he had 867 yards and six touchdowns on 164 carries in 12 games. Last year, he was again limited to 12 games and carried 137 times for 754 yards and no TDs. An ankle sprain and a broken hand sidelined him.
Sanders occasionally loses TD chances to dual-threat quarterback Jalen Hurts, who rushed for 10 scores in 2021. There's also the Kenneth Gainwell factor, as the 2021 fifth-round pick out of Memphis rushed for five scores as a rookie and has been practicing some with the first team at training camp. Boston Scott also is around to vulture some carries.
Philly set franchise records last year with 2,715 rushing yards, 25 rushing TDs and 163 rushing first downs, but the team could throw more this season with the addition of Pro Bowl receiver A.J. Brown from Tennessee.
When the Eagles released their first official depth chart, Sanders was listed as the starting running back. His 5.08 yards per carry average is third in the NFL for current running backs with 400-plus carries, behind only Cleveland's Nick Chubb and Indianapolis' Jonathan Taylor. Yet half of the games Sanders played in 2021 resulted in him having fewer than 10 carries.
"Miles is our guy," Coach Nick Sirianni said. "It's no secret, Miles is our guy and we like to rotate our backs, but he's the guy."
Sanders is a +6000 longshot to lead the NFL in rushing yards. The last Eagle to do so was LeSean McCoy in 2013. Philadelphia opens the season in Detroit on Sept. 11. The SportsLine Projection Model forecasts Sanders for 12.7 carries, 63 yards and 0.25 rushing TDs.
