Leon host Chivas Guadalajara on Monday night to wrap up Matchday 1 of the Mexican Liga MX season. Leon enter the Apertura off a Concacaf Champions League title after La Fiera upset LAFC in the two-leg final a month ago. They finished with the seventh-best record (14-10-10) in the Liga MX table over the two 17-match campaigns in 2022-23. Chivas (15-11-8) were fifth-best and beat Leon 2-0 in the most recent meeting in April.
Kickoff in Leon, Mexico is set for 10 p.m. ET. Caesars Sportsbook lists Leon as +103 favorites (risk $100 to win $103) in its latest Leon vs. Guadalajara odds, with Chivas +275 underdogs. A draw is priced at +230, and the over/under for total match goals is 2.5. (For more soccer coverage, click here.)
Before you lock in your Guadalajara vs. Leon picks or Mexican Liga MX predictions, you must see what soccer bettor Jon "Buckets" Eimer has to say.
Eimer is a high-volume bettor who has vast knowledge of leagues and players across the globe. Since joining SportsLine, he has covered the English Premier League, Serie A, the FA Cup and much more. Since the end of last year's World Cup he has been red-hot, going 156-130-7 for a profit of $3,412 for $100 bettors.
Eimer knows Leon are confident after beating LAFC in the Concacaf Champions League. They opened with a 2-1 victory and closed out the reigning MLS champs with a 1-0 win in the second leg on June 4. Victor Davila, who scored nine goals in 2022-23, earned the Golden Ball in the CCL. New addition Federico Vinas, who started three of 25 appearances but had three goals for America last season, was named Best Young Player.
The expert also has taken into account that Chivas were unbeaten in the two meetings last season. They fought to a 0-0 draw at home then took over in the second half of the Clausura victory at Leon. Victor Guzman led the team with seven goals, but Alexis Vega (six) is out with a knee sprain. Miguel Jimenez was third in Liga MX in saves in 2022-23 (111) and posted his 12th clean sheet of the campaign in the most recent meeting.
For Monday's Liga MX match, Eimer has looked at the Leon vs. Chivas matchup from every angle, and he is leaning slightly over on the goal total.
