The Pittsburgh Penguins are simply a much better team when Tristan Jarry is their starting goaltender, and he will return to the ice on Monday when the Penguins host the New York Islanders, who will be without two of their top forwards in Mathew Barzal and Josh Bailey. Jarry had missed the past nine games. Pittsburgh is -145 at Caesars Sportsbook.

Jarry is 16-5-5 this season with a .921 save percentage and a 2.65 goals-against average. He is an unrestricted free agent after the season. Casey DeSmith has started eight of the nine games Jarry missed, with Dustin Tokarksi starting the other. The Penguins went 4-4-1 in that span. In total, Jarry has missed 16 of the past 18 games due to various injuries.

The Penguins need every point they can get. They're currently tied with the Islanders for the final two Eastern Conference Wild Card spots with 63 points each. Pittsburgh has reached the playoffs for 16 straight years.

In Saturday's 5-2 loss to New Jersey, Evgeni Malkin had two goals to move into sole possession of 50th place on the NHL's all-time points list (1,202). He has now reached the 20-goal plateau 14 times in his Hall of Fame career.

Pittsburgh's five-game home winning streak against the Islanders is its fourth longest home winning streak against one team behind Columbus (12), Ottawa (11) and Arizona (8). The Peguins have just four regulation losses in their last 19 overall matchups vs. New York dating back to Nov. 1, 2018 (11-4-4).

New York already had forwards Cal Clutterbuck, Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Oliver Wahlstrom on injured reserve, and now will also be without Barzal and Bailey on Monday. Barzal will be out indefinitely after suffering a lower-body injury against Boston on Saturday. In 58 games this season, Barzal has 51 points (14 goals, 37 assists) while averaging 18:42 of ice time. Bailey (6 goals, 15 assists) sat out Saturday.

"It's clearly a big hole for us in certain areas," Islanders coach Lane Lambert said of Barzal's injury. "It means other guys have to step up to the plate and create some abilities to contribute and make up for what we're missing with him. He's a big piece of that power play and he's a big piece in bringing the puck into the zone. I talked over and over again about our zone entries being good. So we're going to have to find a way to manage that."

Ilya Sorokin (18-17-15, 2.44 GAA, .923 SV) will be in net for New York. He has stopped 60 of 65 shots in two wins over Pittsburgh this season, both at home. Sorokin is 4-3-0 in seven career regular-season games against the Pens, with a 2.78 GAA, a .909 SV% and one shutout.

    NHL pick: Penguins at -145
