The only NFC team to never play in a Super Bowl is the Detroit Lions, and they almost surely are not getting there this season. Coach Dan Campbell's club is +6000 to win the NFC and +12500 to capture Super Bowl 57, but bettors at Caesars Sportsbook are expecting improvement from last season's 3-13-1 record that was the second-worst in the NFL.
While the Lions had just those three straight-up wins, they were usually competitive as evidenced by an 11-6 against-the-spread mark that was one of the league's best. Most experts loved Detroit's draft in April too. The Lions took Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, the 2021 Heisman Trophy runner-up, at No. 2 overall, and electric Alabama receiver Jameson Williams at No. 12, although he won't be ready for the start of the season as he recovers from a torn ACL.
Detroit is set at Over/Under 6.0 wins at Caesars, and the Over is a -160 favorite because it has taken 96.5 percent of money wagered on the prop and 86.7 percent of the tickets. Only four teams have received more lopsided action Over their win total -- the Colts (9.5), Ravens (9.5), Saints (8) and Commanders (7.5). In July, Lions Over 6 wins was not only the most popular regular-season win total wager at the book, but the most popular NFL bet overall by handle at Caesars.
The Lions last made the postseason in 2016 -- they haven't won a playoff game since following the 1991 campaign -- and are +450 to do so this year, down from an open +475. Only three teams have received more money to make the playoffs this season than the Lions, where Yes has taken 99.2 percent of the action and 95.5 percent of the tickets: the Eagles, Saints and Jets.
To win the NFC North, the Lions opened at +1000 but are now +900. Believe it or not, Detroit has gotten more tickets (30 percent) than the three-time defending champion Packers (17 percent), who are -170 favorites.
Campbell was originally tied for the longest odds for Coach of the Year at +6000 but is now +1700. He leads in money wagered (22%) and tickets sold (20%). Hutchinson is the +350 favorite for Defensive Rookie of the Year and is tied for the most tickets with Eagles linebacker Nakobe Dean (+1800) at 14.1 percent each.
D'Andre Swift opened +12500 to lead the NFL in rushing yards but is down to +5000. He has gotten a league-high 13.3 percent of the handle despite being injury-prone and having a reputation as a pass-catching back. He was leading all NFL running backs in receptions and targets last year before he suffered a shoulder injury on Thanksgiving that cost him a month.
