When No. 7 Ole Miss heads to Austin this Saturday to face No. 19 Texas under the lights, the buzz is all about the gap between perception and reality.
On one side: quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and a Rebels team riding high after dismantling Missouri, 31-3. On the other: a Texas squad shaken by back-to-back, gut-wrenching losses to Oklahoma and Florida, sliding to No. 19 in the AP poll.
The betting line has moved from Texas -9.5 in the summer to just -3.5 this week. But are the Longhorns really in trouble, or is the public overreacting and creating an opportunity for sharp bettors?
Using a system that has hit at a 68.6% rate since 2017 and a 74.1% rate since 2022, I attack this Texas-Ole Miss matchup. It is one of three system plays I have for Week 8 of the college football season.
Although there are numerous options each week, I stick to the systems I trust, those with a 60% or better success rate over a large sample. Each system has produced a selection, which is rated on a confidence scale from 0 to 5, where 5 means the highest level of confidence. I will also share my model's projection, which is a completely separate predictive metric. When my model and the system agree, that selection is more likely to bring home cash. (No betting approach is perfect, so please bet responsibly.) A confidence level of 0 means I like the other side.
