2025 Grant Park 165 odds, NASCAR picks: Best bets for the Chicago road course race from proven racing expert

CBS Sports NASCAR writer Steven Taranto reveals his NASCAR picks to SportsLine for the 2025 Grant Park 165 in Chicago on Sunday

ByUpdated: Jul 06, 2025 3:37PM UTC . 3 min read

Chase Elliott will look to make it two wins in a row when he takes part in the second leg of the NASCAR In-Season Challenge at the 2025 Grant Park 165 in Chicago on Sunday. Elliott held on to win last week's race in Atlanta, his first victory of the season. He has 10 top-10 finishes on the year. The bracket-style tournament will continue for five weeks, culminating at the Brickyard 400 on July 27 in Indianapolis.

Shane Van Gisbergen is the +120 favorite (risk $100 to win $120) in the Chicago Street Race, with Tyler Reddick at +750, Michael McDowell at +850, Christopher Bell at +1000, Ty Gibbs at +1100 and Kyle Larson at +1500 in the latest 2025 Grant Park 165 odds, from DraftKings Sportsbook. Sunday's race is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. ET.

Before making any Chicago road course picks, you NEED to see what CBS Sports NASCAR writer Steven Taranto has to say.

Taranto, who moonlights as a sim racer and has 20 career wins in iRacing, is the lead NASCAR writer for CBSSports.com. Taranto was red-hot for SportsLine in 2024 as he nailed 17 winners, including 16-1 longshot William Byron at the Daytona 500 and 14-1 longshot Chase Elliott at Texas. Anybody following his NASCAR picks could have seen HUGE returns!

For the 2025 NASCAR Grant Park 165, Taranto is high on Christopher Bell (+1000). He also has a head-to-head prop bet, with Erik Jones (-115) to finish ahead of Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (-115). "This weekend's head-to-head matchups are all based on the NASCAR In-Season Challenge, but there aren't a particularly notable amount of realistic upset candidates the way there were a week ago in Atlanta. If anything, it's worth paying attention to the Erik Jones vs. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. matchup, which pits two drivers who are fairly evenly matched against each other.

"I'll give the nod to Jones based on his recent run of success, as he beat Stenhouse for a fifth place finish at Atlanta to give him two top fives, three top 10s, and six top 15s since Texas in March. By comparison, Stenhouse is hit-or-miss on road courses, as reflected in his Chicago results: He ran sixth last year, but was a measly 34th the year before."

Taranto has also identified four other drivers in his 2025 NASCAR Grant Park 165 best bets. He's also high on a huge NASCAR longshot who's around 100-1, potentially netting any backer a HUGE payday! You ABSOLUTELY NEED to see his picks before locking in any NASCAR picks of your own.
