2021 Woodward Stakes morning-line odds, picks: Racing insider offers bet strategy for Saturday's race

Sharp handicapper and Beyer Speed Figure maker Bob Weir has had multiple five-figure days at the track and crushed the exacta in the Tampa Bay Derby in March for $1,414. Now, one week after hitting the trifecta in the Pennsylvania Derby for $236, he targets the Woodward Stakes 2021 at Belmont Park

Six of the East Coast's top older horses will try to get a win in their final prep for the Breeders' Cup when they leave the starting gate in the 2021 Woodward Stakes on Saturday at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y. Grade 1 winner Maxfield has seven wins in nine career starts and has been installed as the 7-5 morning-line favorite in the 2021 Woodward Stakes odds. Code of Honor, who has won more than $2.8 million in his career, is the 5-2 second choice in the Woodward Stakes 2021 field. Post time is 5:45 p.m. ET.

Before you make any Woodward Stakes picks or bets, you NEED to see the latest picks from racing insider and Beyer Speed Figure maker Bob Weir.

A two-time qualifier for the prestigious National Horseplayers Championship in Las Vegas, Weir has produced multiple five-figure days at the track over the years, including a $60,000 Pick 6 at Del Mar in 2014. This year, he has crushed the three-year-old races. He hit the exacta in the Sam F. Davis Stakes, Tampa Bay Derby and Peter Pan Stakes, the trifecta in the Risen Star Stakes, Blue Grass Stakes and Pennsylvania Derby and the superfecta in the Belmont Stakes. Those are just some of his scores in 2021.

Run at Saratoga in upstate New York from 2006 to 2020, the Woodward Stakes was moved back to Belmont Park this year so that the Jockey Club Gold Cup could be run at Saratoga. The switch has seemingly been beneficial to this year's Woodward, which has attracted a small but accomplished field. The six entrants have combined to win 34 races and more than $7 million in their careers. Those who run well on Saturday are expected to continue onto the Breeders' Cup, which will be run in five weeks at Del Mar in California.

Art Collector, who won last year's Blue Grass Stakes and is the 3-1 third choice on the morning line, is expected to be the early pacesetter with 50-1 long shot Mo Gotcha just to his outside. Forza Di Oro (5-1) figures to sit just behind those two with the other three other horses coming from off the pace.

Now, Weir has handicapped the Woodward Stakes 2021 field, made his picks and constructed his bets.

One surprise: Weir is mostly fading Code of Honor, even though he is the 5-2 second choice on the morning line. "He's hard to dismiss, but I'm not convinced this horse will build off his return win at Monmouth," Weir told SportsLine. Weir prefers three horses over Code of Honor.

Weir's top pick is a horse who "has improved this year." He also is high on a horse whose "odds should be more inviting." Weir is including these horses in his 2021 Woodward Stakes bets, and so should you. You ABSOLUTELY need to see his picks before locking in any of your own!
