2021 Clark Stakes morning-line odds, picks: Racing insider offers bet strategy for Friday's race

Sharp handicapper and Beyer Speed Figure maker Bob Weir has had multiple five-figure days at the track and crushed the exacta in the Tampa Bay Derby in March for $1,414. Now he targets Friday's Clark Stakes 2021 at Churchill Downs

The Brendan Walsh-trained Maxfield will try to end his career with a second Grade 1 win when he leaves the starting gate in the 2021 Clark Stakes on Friday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. A winner of more than $1.5 million in his career who is set to be retired after the race, Maxfield has been installed as the 6-5 favorite in the 2021 Clark Stakes odds. The Steve Asmussen-trained Midnight Bourbon is the 8-5 second choice in the eight-horse Clark Stakes field. Post time is 5:56 p.m. ET.

Before you make any Clark Stakes 2021 picks or bets, you NEED to see the latest picks from racing insider and Beyer Speed Figure maker Bob Weir.

A Saratoga Springs-based racing insider and Beyer Speed Figure maker, Weir has studied the race and constructed his wagers in his analysis below. A two-time qualifier for the prestigious National Horseplayers Championship in Las Vegas, Weir has produced multiple five-figure days at the track over the years, including a $60,000 Pick 6 at Del Mar in 2014. This year, he has been on fire. He hit the exacta in the Sam F. Davis Stakes, Tampa Bay Derby and Peter Pan Stakes, the trifecta in the Risen Star Stakes, Blue Grass Stakes and Pennsylvania Derby and the superfecta in the Belmont Stakes, with the Tampa Bay score returning $1,414. Those are just some of his scores in 2021.

Friday's Clark Stakes is the most lucrative race (along with the Cigar Mile) remaining on the 2021 horse racing calendar. A Grade 1 race with a purse of $750,000, the Clark annually attracts several of the country's top two-turn dirt horses. This year's Clark has brought together a 4-year-old star, Maxfield, a 3-year-old up-and-comer, Midnight Bourbon, and six other accomplished horses.

The nine-furlong race lacks horses with need-the-lead speed. Midnight Bourbon is the likely pacesetter, especially with his rail draw, and could hold a pace edge over the late runners, including the favorite, Maxfield.

Now, Weir has handicapped the Clark 2021 field, made his picks and constructed his bets.

One surprise: Weir is high on King Fury, a 12-1 long shot. "King Fury loves Churchill Downs and could be underrated against a suspect group of older horses," Weir told SportsLine. Weir is including King Fury in his wagers.

Weir's top pick is a horse who has "improved throughout the year." He also is high on a double-digit long shot who "has the ability to hit the board." Weir is including these horses in his 2021 Clark Stakes bets, and so should you. You ABSOLUTELY need to see his picks before locking in any of your own!
