The Brendan Walsh-trained Maxfield will try to end his career with a second Grade 1 win when he leaves the starting gate in the 2021 Clark Stakes on Friday at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. A winner of more than $1.5 million in his career who is set to be retired after the race, Maxfield has been installed as the 6-5 favorite in the 2021 Clark Stakes odds. A Grade 1 race with a purse of $750,000, the Clark annually attracts several of the country's top two-turn dirt horses. This year's Clark has brought together a 4-year-old star, Maxfield, a 3-year-old up-and-comer, Midnight Bourbon, and six other accomplished horses.

The nine-furlong race lacks horses with need-the-lead speed. Midnight Bourbon is the likely pacesetter, especially with his rail draw, and could hold a pace edge over the late runners, including the favorite, Maxfield.
