2017 NBA Championship Odds: Where does the value lie?

Vegas handicapper Zack Cimini breaks down the NBA championship odds board and gives you one team offering extreme value as the season approaches.

After two straight NBA Finals featuring the Warriors and Cavaliers, it's no surprise to see those teams atop the futures board at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook.

Golden State's addition of superstar Kevin Durant just means more money being thrown at the Warriors' title odds.

Yet, both conferences are actually getting deeper in terms of high-quality teams. The circus of free agency signings this off-season merely furthers that trend.

A key injury to the Warriors or Cavaliers could open the door for, at the very least, a profitable hedge opportunity.

Beyond the Spurs at 6/1, the next-in-line teams are the Clippers and retooled Celtics at 20/1 apiece.

It's no secret that LeBron James has needed in-season rest for ongoing wear and tear on his body. Point guard Kyrie Irving's NBA Finals performance is not a permanent go-to factor for the Cavaliers in their quest to repeat.

Not addressing Kevin Love's inconsistency could leave Cleveland vulnerable for offensive production if James isn't 100 percent for the playoffs.

For the Warriors, three key assets -- Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green -- extended their postseason runs with the U.S. Olympic team.

Durant must mesh with Stephen Curry, and don't forget this team lost Andrew Bogut, Leandro Barbosa and Harrison Barnes. So on-court chemistry is not a given.

The team offering premium value at this juncture is the Clippers.

Instead of making big signings, they stuck with the core group that has faltered in dramatic fashion the last several seasons.

From the Donald Sterling fallout, DeAndre Jordan's near-signing with Dallas, and injuries to Chris Paul and Blake Griffin, the Clippers still have their stars plus their bench depth.

They added big men Brice Johnson, Marreese Speights and Brandon Bass to a roster that already featured Paul, Griffin, Jordan, J.J. Redick, Paul Pierce and Jamal Crawford.

Essentially, this is the Clippers' last chance to make a run. Come April I expect their odds to be much lower than where you can grab them now.
