Today's top picks: Why the run total will go over in the Braves-Nationals game and more expert bets for Saturday, Aug. 14

The SportsLine crew shares its expert bets for Saturday, Aug. 14, on The Early Edge podcast

Jonathan Coachman is joined by expert sports bettors Mike McClure, Allan Bell, and Justin Perri on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best Major League Baseball and NFL preseason bets for Saturday, Aug. 14.

Coach got the ball rolling with the SportsLine Play of the Day: The White Sox (-135) to beat the Yankees (7:30 p.m. ET). "We're gonna go back to the White Sox-Yankees series. The White Sox with that dramatic win in the Field of Dreams. Hitting the over for us; hitting the straight money line play for us," he says. "And today you're only laying 35 cents. This play [is] courtesy of our guy Matty Severance. The number one baseball handicapper at SportsLine."

McClure kicked things off with a Major League Baseball play of his own. He's backing Over 9 runs (-115) in the Braves-Nationals game (6:05 p.m. ET) in Washington, D.C. "Frankly, I'm stunned that this thing did not open [at] 9.5. I have this one up all the way to 10.4 in the simulations. I absolutely love it here," he says. "Max Fried, much different pitcher at home vs. on the road. He's on the road today. Well at home, .274 weighted on-base average. On the road, .361, allowing 1.6 home runs per nine innings."

Bell is on three NFL plays. His first is Under 33 points in the Chargers vs. Rams game (10:00 p.m. ET). The line has moved to 32.5 (-110) since Bell made his play, though. "If you look at someone who could not care less about the NFL preseason, it is Rams coach Sean McVay," he says. "In Week 1s of the NFL preseason, the Rams average 7.6 points per game. In those Week 1 games under Sean McVay, they've never scored more than 13 points."

Bell also likes the Browns +3 (-105) against the Jaguars and the Packers -3 (-115) against the Texans. "Three days ago we saw the Texans try to quit. Get out of the preseason. Get out of training camp. I don't think that they wanna be here. They've got a new head coach, we don't know what they're doing at quarterback, they have to go to Green Bay," he said.

Perri is locked in on fading the Cubs and like the Marlins -1.5 (+130) against Chicago (6:10 p.m. ET). "I don't see a reason to stop doing so. They've lost all eight of their last games by multiple runs, so we're just gonna continue doing it," he says. "We're gonna get some plus money."

Perri also likes the Astros -1.5 (-135) against the Angels (9:07 p.m. ET). "Twelve of [the Angels'] last 13 losses have been by multiple runs. They've won a couple [of] games as underdogs, but every game they seem to lose, they're gonna lose big. Which means there's extra value for us taking a run line here."
