Jonathan Coachman is joined by expert sports bettors Allan Bell, Justin Perri, Max Gorenstein and Larry Hartstein on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for MLB and college football for Sunday, Sept. 5, as well as some future NFL best bets.

Coach starts things off with the SportsLine Play of the Day: Notre Dame (-7) to cover against Florida State (7:30 p.m. ET).

Gorenstein makes his Early Edge debut with a trio of picks, including two future NFL best bets. The first: Jacksonville's Trevor Lawrence going Over 24.5 passing touchdowns on the season (-110). "He looked as prepared as any rookie I've ever seen (in the preseason)," he says. "He's playing for a terrible team, so they're going to be losing most of the games and they're going to be chasing points and he's going to throw the ball a lot."

Max's second future NFL play is Baltimore's Lamar Jackson going Over 900.5 rushing yards (-112). "He has easily surpassed this number in each of the last two seasons, going over 1,000 yards," Gorenstein says. "Now that the season also has an extra game, this number should be no problem for him."

Gorenstein's final play is in Major League Baseball: Oakland scoring Under 3.5 runs (-115) in the Athletics-Blue Jays game (1:07 p.m. ET). "(Toronto's) Robbie Ray is currently on a tear," he says. "Since the All-Star break, he's only allowed 13 runs in his nine starts. The A's struggle against lefties, and he's basically the best left-handed pitcher out there."

Bell jumps in with a pair of plays in the Notre Dame-Florida State game: Under 27.5 points in the first half and Under 55.5 points overall. "Both teams are breaking in brand new quarterbacks and I don't really see a track meet coming out of either (in the first half)," he says. "In 2020, Notre Dame only had four games that went over 55.5 total. Three of those were at home, and all of those players are in the NFL. This is a completely different team."

Perri follows with an MLB play: Over 4.5 runs in the first five innings (-115) of the Astros-Padres game (4:10 p.m. ET). "(Houston's) Luis Garcia really has not been great on the road (4.85 ERA)," he says. "(San Diego's Chris Paddack) has only pitched into the sixth inning once in his last nine starts. (He has a) 6.59 ERA when pitching in San Diego."

Hartstein wraps things up with one play, also in MLB: Tampa Bay -1.5 runs (-110) against the Twins (1:10 p.m. ET). "(The Twins have had) six straight games with three or fewer runs," Larry says. "(Minnesota's) Griffin Jax has been lit up in two straight starts. ... Of the last 20 wins the Rays have had, 19 have come by at least two runs."
