Today's top picks: Why Iowa will cover against Purdue and more college football and MLB expert bets for Saturday, Oct. 16

Allan Bell is joined by expert sports bettors Mike McClure, Justin Perri and Micah Roberts on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for college football and the Major League Baseball playoffs for Saturday, Oct. 16.

Bell starts things off with the SportsLine Play of the Day: Ole Miss (-2.5) to cover against Tennessee (7:30 ET). "Take the team and the quarterback that you trust more in terms of their offensive explosion ability," Bell says.

Perri has two picks from the MLB playoffs. The first is Over 8.5 runs in Game 2 of the ALCS between the Astros and Red Sox (4:20 p.m. ET). "These teams are just hitting so well," he says.

Perri also likes the Under 4.5 runs in the first five innings of Game 1 of the NLCS between the Dodgers and Braves (8:08 p.m. ET). "Max Fried and Max Scherzer both have been substantially efficient," he says.

Roberts has three picks. The first is Iowa (-11) to cover against Purdue (3:30 p.m. ET). "They are 7-1 against the spread in the last eight games," Roberts says. "I made the game -14.5, -15, so based on the number alone, it's a must-play for me."

He also has two picks from Game 2 of the NLCS: The first is Dodgers (-125) to beat the Braves. "Scherzer is going to give five, six strong innings here. and the bullpen, the best bullpen in baseball, is going to take over and shut em down and get the win for the Dodgers," Roberts says. He also likes the game to stay Under 8 runs.

McClure's pair of picks comes in college football. The first is Texas (-0.5) to cover in the first quarter against Oklahoma State (noon ET). "I love Xavier Worthy, Bijan Robinson and Casey Thompson," he says. "I think they're good enough to jump out to their normal early lead."

McClure closes out The Early Edge with Alabama (-5.5) to cover in the first quarter against Mississippi State. (7 p.m. ET). "They're going to be motivated," he says. "They're going to be hungry. I think they're obviously the better team."
