Today's picks: Why to bet Lions to cover vs. Bears, plus more NFL, college football and MLB predictions for Friday, October 1

Jonathan Coachman is joined by featured betting experts Allie O' Neill, Allan Bell, Matt Severance and Larry Hartstein on the Early Edge podcast, powered by SportsLine. Get prime plays for the NFL, college football and MLB for Friday, Oct. 1.

Allan reveals some unique numbers involving Unders in 1 p.m. ET NFL starts. Matt looks at the major betting action involving Buccaneers-Patriots and advises how to approach it. Larry examines key injuries in the Ravens-Broncos matchup. 

The Coach drops the SportsLine Play of the Day, endorsing Houston and Tulsa Over 54 points at 7:30 p.m. ET. Tulsa is finding its groove and Houston is also playing very well. 

Allan's featured college football play is Michigan +2 over Wisconsin on Saturday at noon ET. Wisconsin has its strengths but is outmatched vs. Michigan in every important regard. Allan says the wrong team is favored. 

In MLB, Allie is going with the Phillies and Marlins Under seven runs at 7:10 p.m. ET. The pitching matchup is a stellar one. Sandy Alcantara is better at home and Ranger Suarez is consistently hitting the Unders. 

Matt's MLB parlay is the Mariners and Blue Jays at +115. Seattle is hosting the Angels at 10:10 p.m. ET and Toronto is at home vs. the Orioles at 7:07 p.m. ET. Both teams are going down to the wire in the A.L. playoff race and are facing opponents with nothing to play for. In college football, his top pick is Northwestern and Nebraska Under 51.5 points on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. The Nebraska defense is solid and Northwestern's offense is terrible. Matt's NFL play is Miami -2 over Indianapolis on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. The Colts are dealing with several concerning injuries and the Dolphins have good numbers ATS following a loss. 

Larry is on the Lions +3 over the Bears on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET. "They've had a tough schedule," he says of Detroit. "They held the Ravens to 1 out of 10 on third downs and dominated time of time of possession. Jared Goff has completed 70 percent of his passes. Now they go against a Bears team that mustered 47 yards in 45 plays (last Sunday), which is about impossible in today's NFL."
