We're thinking that was a bit of an outlier (and that might be a big understatement) for a Sharks scoreline on Saturday in Pittsburgh, when San Jose made that whirlwind rally from 5-1 down in the third period to win 6-5 in OT. The previous four games had all landed exactly on five goals, and the Sharks could only mange 1 or 2 goals in four of the previous six games as they continue to look for consistent scoring from someone other than Macklin Celebrini. Meanwhile Calgary continued its low-scoring tendencies in Saturday's 2-1 win at LA, and GK Dustin Wolf has a 1.61 GAA in five December starts. Play Flames-Sharks Under
The Sharks probably didn't need a plane to fly home from Pittsburgh after that rousing 6-5 OT win on Saturday over the Penguins, rallying from 5-1 down in the third period. John Klingberg ended up scoring twice (including the winner) as San Jose got some offense from someone other than Macklin Celebrini. They're back at the Tank tonight facing a hot Flames bunch that's won three of four, but hard to trust Calgary's offense that's only scored more than Seattle in the West. Let's see if Sharks GK Yaroslav Askarov rediscovers his November form when posting a 1.88 GAA (December 4.55), and he's 10-4 his last fourteen starts. Play Sharks on Money Line
By a rather healthy margin, the Kraken remain the lowest-scoring team in the NHL, wallowing at just 74 goals into tonight. Having played just 30 games. Seattle has a couple of games in hand against most of the rest of the league, which might account for some of the disparity, but this sluggish offense is still scoring less than 2.5 goals pg. Joey Daccord (2.89 GAA) is doing his best in goal to keep scorelines respectable, but tonight he might have to blank the powerhouse Avs, as his Kraken teammates can't be expected to put many shots past Colorado counterpart Mackenzie Blackwood, considering his 2.19 GAA and .920 saves in 10 starts into tonight at Climate Pledge. Goals-goals-goals, lots of them lately for Nashville. The Blues know first-hand after the Preds put seven past them last Thursday at Bridgestone Arena when Steven Stamkos scored four times for just the second time in his career. Though several have chipped in lately for Andrew Brunette, whose team seems to have solved its earlier offensive issues, scoring 35 times across the past nine games. Joel Hofer, in the net for St Louis tonight, came on late last Thursday, and gets another chance tonight after posting some very so-so numbers this season (including 3.10 GAA and .893 saves). Play Preds-Blues Over
It took the powerhouse Avs to cool down the rejuvenated Preds on Saturday night but Nashville still emits go-with vibes. The Blues could attest after getting run off of the ice at Bridgestone Arena by the Preds last Thursday in a 7-2 romp featuring four goals by Steven Stamkos (for just the second time in his career). Nashville had won six of eight, including against the Avs last Tuesday, before losing Saturday in Denver, but importantly for the Preds, the offense looks alive again. Meanwhile, St Louis continues to have issues on offense, held to three goals or fewer in eight straight games. Play Preds on Money Line
Colorado needed Cale Makar to score in the last eight seconds to force OT on Tuesday at Nashville (a game the Avs would lose in a shootout), but it allowed yet another Colorado game to land over in the eventual 4-3 loss. Returning home on Thursday to bounce the Panthers 6-2 means the Avs have pumped in 22 goals across their last four home games in Denver. Obviously, there's nothing wrong with the Colorado offense, with six different scorers in Thursday's win over Florida. There's more to tonight, however, as the visiting Preds are on a heater with wins in six of eight, and streaky Steven Stamkos just off of the second four-goal game of his career on Thursday vs. the Blues. Play Preds-Avs Over
We don't mind taking a spin with a Tampa Bay side that looks on the upswing. Fourteen goals across the past two games for the Lightning in wins over the Canadiens and Devils on this road trip, following a pair of shutout losses (one vs. the Islanders at home). We like the quick rematch angle especially as Tampa Bay also lost 2-1 vs. the same Isles just five nights earlier on December 2. Tampa Bay has picked up the offense while GK Andrei Vasilevsky has been out the past few games as the Lightning has won back-to-back with Jonas Johansson in goal, jumping all over opposing goalies Jakub Dobes, Sam Montembeault and Jacob Markstrom in the process. Play Lightning on Puck Line
There needs to be some good reasons to not look under in Sharks games these days...and not sure we see those this afternoon at PPG Paints Arena. Once again, another San Jose game landed on five goals (for the fourth straight time!) in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Maple Leafs in Toronto. It was Alex Nedeljkovic in goal two nights ago and it will be Yaroslav Askarov this afternoon, though his December form has not been as good as it was in November when he posted a 1.88 GAA and .947 saves. Arturs Silovs in the net tonight for Pittsburgh and should appreciate facing a San Jose attack that has had problems scoring the past week. Play Sharks-Penguins Under
For the Blackhawks, any slump seems more isolated. Not necessarily for the Blues. Chicago sagged at the end of its recent road trip, whipped by the Kings and Ducks by a combined 12-1, but those were the only two truly bad efforts the past couple of weeks since a 9-3 loss to Buffalo on November 21. Chicago recovered smartly on Wednesday in a 3-0 win over the Rangers as Spencer Knight (in the nets again tonight) stopped all 21 shots he faced. For the Blues, the malaise has mostly lasted since later October, and consecutive heavy losses to the Bruins and Preds by a combined 12-4 suggest breakdowns beyond iffy work in goal from Jordan Binnington or Joel Hofer (in the net tonight). Play Blackhawks
We can't resist getting Florida at this sort of a price, even plus a goal. The Panthers seem to have righted their ship with wins in three straight, including last night in Salt lake City over the Mammoth. The offense has started to percolate, scoring 15 times (including an OT goal) in the three-game uptick. Paul Maurice has tabbed Daniel Tarasov to start in goal after stopping 20 of 21 shots in a 4-1 win over the Islanders on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Ave are still scary but they have lost games lately (3 of 7) and have been involved in three OT/shootouts, plus another one-goal game, in the past two weeks. Play Panthers on Puck Line
Winnipeg is not to be trusted as a favorite at the moment. Losses in four of five are the evidence, and there have been some reasons for the downturn, mainly the injury to GK Connor Hellebuyck, which continues to keep him on the shelf. Eric Comrie is doing his best but he's not Hellebuyck, and his December stat line isn't great...only one win in five, with a 3.77 GAA and .878 saves. Meanwhile, the Bruins hit the Jets tonight having won three straight, and GK Joonas Korpisalo (in the nets tonight) is off of one of his best efforts, stopping 37 of 39 shots in a 5-2 win over the Blues last Thursday. Play Bruins on Money Line
The Preds bottomed out a couple of weeks ago but have been on the ascent since. Wins in five of seven, including recent successes at defending champ Panthers and home vs. the mighty Avs on Tuesday, suggest the worst is behind as the offense has certainly shifted gears. Steven Stamkos was recently on the scoresheet in consecutive outings and looks to be very much into the offensive flow as Andrew Brunette suddenly appears to be pushing the right buttons. Meanwhile, just when it looks like the Blues might be ready for a turnaround, they stumble as they did on Tuesday at home vs. Bruins. Jordan Binnington also up-and-down in goal, as his uninspiring season-long stats (3.29 GAA, .875 saves) suggests). Play Preds on Puck Line
It's been a pretty potent under combination for the Sharks ..good work in goal and subpar work on offense. Three straight San Jose games have landed on 4-1 scorelines, all under results, as has been the case in 13 of the Sharks' last 17 games. Alex Nedeljkoic has been serviceable enough when in goal as he is tonight, with a GAA of 2.66 and saves at .908 since the beginning of November. As for the Leafs, with Joseph Woll now on the shelf, and Anthony Stolarz out for the past four weeks, Dennis Hildeby has been getting a look in goal and hasn't responded badly, with a 2.16 GAA and .936 saves in six starts. Play Sharks-Maple Leafs Under
Note some pretty decent recent form for the Flyers, winning five of the last seven, as this homestand continues tonight vs. Vegas. At 10-5-2 as host at Xfinity Mobile Arena this season, Rick Tocchet's team has developed a bit of a home edge, and Philly's scoring has been balanced throughout its various lines. Ex-Duck Trevor Zegras, on a team-best 27 points, has been as advertised, and emerging winger Tyson Foerster has scored in three of the past games. Former Flyer Carter Hart won't be starting in goal tonight for VGK (Akira Schmid instead), and Vegas' penchant for close games finally bit it on Tuesday on Long Island when the Isles took a 5-4 shootout decision. Play Flyers on Money Line
We've been waiting for some buy signals on the Panthers and recent efforts suggest the breakthrough might be imminent. Getting away from Sunrise might also be a good thing after recent struggles at home, though Florida just ended what was a dicey homestand with back-to-back wins over Columbus (in OT) and the Islanders. Sergei Bobrovsky gets back in the nets tonight for the first time since a difficult outing vs. the Blue Jackets, and though he has had a bumpy ride lately, expecting Bob to begin flashing prior form at any time. The Panthers also might be hitting Salt lake City at the right time after Utah's offense went limp in back-to-back losses to the Flames and Kings. Play Panthers on the Money Line.
