We might not have blinked if the oddsmakers decided to drop a rare 7 on the "totals" side for this one at Little Caesars. Red Wings games have hit the magic seven mark in five of their last six, and tonight Alex Debrincat and the other Detroit scorers get a look at Antti Raanta and his .860 saves, part of what has been worst (statistically) team goalie performance this season. Carolina remains nothing if not potent, however, still with the best shot attempt share in the NHL. Can envision this one at 3-3 into OT, in which case clearing the 6.5 is a fait accompli. Play Hurricanes-red Wings "Over"
Recent form doesn't suggest the Canes should be laying -150 or thereabouts vs. anybody, even after breaking a four-game skid at the expense of the Senators earlier in the week. There are reasons Carolina has underachieved, partly due to poor performance from the goalies, who rank 32nd in save percentage...a big part of why the Canes sit outside of a playoff spot. Antti Raanta and his .860 saves are in goal tonight. As for the Red Wings, they got back in gear with the Tuesday win at St Louis, and goal-scoring has generally not been a problem, with six different scorers in the win over the Blues. Note Ville Husso is 9-5-1 in goal this season. Play Red Wings on Money Line
Pretty simple really: The Wings +1.5 at home are basically the same price if not slightly cheaper as Hurricanes ML, so it's a no-brainer play in my mind -- if you want to play the game at all, that is -- since the teams aren't that far apart talent-wise if at all. Feels like a bad spot for the Canes at the end of a six-game trip and the only game in the USA on it. Carolina is 1-4 on the trip.
