Wednesday World Cup trading preview

  • Belgium vs. Senegal more than 2.5 goals ($0.49)
  • Bosnia to lose by fewer than 1.5 goals vs. USA ($0.56)
  • USA to advance ($0.83)
  • Christian Pulisic more than 0.5 assists ($0.28)

The Belgians have talent all over the field, and while they might be lacking a true go-to goalscorer, the likes of Leandro Trossard, Kevin De Bruyne and the limited Romelu Lukaku can all score at any time. They are all part of an efficient attack that has been competitive against the world's top teams for more than a decade. Senegal are no slouches either and held their own against France and Norway in the group stage. Guys like Ismaila Sarr (three goals), Pape Gueye (two) and Sadio Mane can be a handful for defenders, and neither of these defenses have been great. "Both sides have really struggled defensively, and that opens the door for goals," SportsLine expert Brad Thomas says, and he is expecting more than 2.5.

The Americans have not historically been a high-scoring team, but the attack opened some eyes with 4-1 and 2-0 victories to clinch their group with one game to spare. They were flying high, but a loss to Turkiye with many key players on the bench could sap some momentum. The USMNT are the more talented side, which is why they are strong favorites, but Thomas thinks Bosnia and Herzegovina will give them a tough match. "While I'll be the most patriotic person at the bar, I don't think this is easy sledding," Thomas says, and he is taking the Bosnians to lose by fewer than 1.5 goals. "This feels more like a 2-1 type of match," the expert adds.

Thomas and fellow expert Martin Green both are expecting the Americans to win. "Their star players will now be fresh for this game against Bosnia and Herzegovina," says Green, who expects the crowd in San Francisco to provide a boost. Pulisic has been the most creative player on the pitch every time he's out there, and while he might score a goal in his return from injury, I expect he'll set up one of his teammates for the glory. Pulisic's unpredictable and pinpoint passes create trouble in and around the box, and the USMNT have plenty of players who can finish.
