The Guardians might be starting slow, but at least they're not the Rockies. There are worse teams in the league, but only the A's may be as truly depressing as Colorado. What exactly is the point of the Rockies? What's the plan here? They can't hit. They can't pitch -- and the poster child for that problem is today's starter, Austin Gomber. You know, one of the big pieces in the disastrous Nolan Arenado trade. The juice on Cleveland is substantial, but the Guardians are winning in 70% of my model's simulations. It's worth the squeeze. This has all the makings of a get-right series that Cleveland desperately needs.
I really don't like -1.5 runline plays so we will risk this fading Colorado on the road and the absolutely awful Austin Gomber on Monday. His 12.12 ERA is the highest in the National League, and the southpaw has allowed runs on 22 hits in 10.1 innings over his last three. Kris Bryant missed Sunday's loss injured and is iffy for Monday. Cleveland starts Cal Quantrill, who is 14-1 with a 2.94 ERA in his career at Progressive Field. No action if either pitcher is scratched.
