The Astros partied it up with the AL West clincher on Monday night. They have an eight-game lead over the Yankees for the top seed in the AL and are six games back of the Dodgers for the top overall seed in baseball. That is to say, they have every reason to rest a bunch of players in this one. The game is as meaningless as it gets for them. The Rays send ace Shane McClanahan to the hill and he was dominant last time out (5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K) in his return from the injured list. They need this one a lot more, too.
I completely agree with John Bollman in that Dusty Baker figures to rest some top guys tonight after clinching the AL West. Houston hasn't clinched the AL's top seed yet but it's essentially a done deal so one day off won't matter. Actually meant to play this last night when the Astros did clinch and the price was 20 cents lower, but the NyQuil had other ideas. Under Houston TT vs. Shane McClanahan right now might not be a bad wager before we get official word on the Jose Altuves and Yordan Alvarezs, etc., sitting.
The Astros clinched the AL West, a first-round bye, and home field advantage yesterday with their win, so they were celebrating all last night. I highly doubt any regular starters will be playing for the Astros today. This line is already shooting up because the public is beginning to realize. Shane McClanahan recently came off the IL, but he has been dominant this season. Christian Javier has also been very good lately. But the Rays have been dominant at home and they should take care of business against a second string Astros team.
