The Yankees have covered the runline in three of the last four meetings against the Mets. Both pitchers faced off at the end of the July. Max Scherzer went seven scoreless only giving up five hits. Domingo German was alright last outing against the Mets, giving up two earned runs off five hits. The Yankees are 41-28 in both the regular season and playoffs all-time against the Mets. Yankees to cover the runline (-125).
Since Aug. 2, the Yankees offense has only averaged 2.88 runs per game and that's with two nine-run games and one eight-run game. Otherwise, they've been pretty terrible. They'll deal with Max Scherzer Monday. Despite having played a doubleheader on Saturday and a marathon game on Sunday, the Mets' bullpen isn't in terrible shape, either. The Mets offense is more reliable and is facing a much lesser pitcher in Domingo German. We're gonna ride the better team here, as the number (-165) isn't too steep considering it's Scherzer against a team that is 10-20 since the All-Star break.
I was a bit on the fence between Mets moneyline or Yankees runline, but with no Gleyber Torres for the Bombers we'll back the visitors behind Max Scherzer (9-2, 2.15 ERA). He is looking for his 200th career win to join fellow former Cy Young winners Justin Verlander (241) and Zack Greinke (223) as the active pitchers with at least 200. Scherzer shut out the Yankees at Citi Field over seven innings last month. AL MVP favorite Aaron Judge has now gone nine games without a homer — his longest drought of the season — and he’s hit just .133 over that time. The Yankees are 0-5 in their last five games following a win. Note that rain could be a factor.
I want to get one more play in early because I don't want to let it rise. Max Scherzer has been dominant since returning from the IL and he faces a Yankees team that has been struggling to score. Domingo German has been decent but he should struggle against a Mets team that just put up 10 runs. The Yankees won yesterday but that doesn't mean they've turned it around, they've still lost 14 of 18 and 20 of 30. I like the Mets on the "road".
