On Thursday, the Orioles ended a six-game losing streak in a win over the Yankees. On Friday, Baltimore has a solid chance at its first winning streak since the team won three in a row May 8-10. The Orioles face a Tampa Bay Rays team that has lost Jalen Beeks' last three starts. Take the home underdog value with the Orioles.
For a brief glimpse there, the Orioles weren't helpless. They won six of eight. They've since lost six of their last seven and the win Thursday erases worries on the possibly-irrational-yet-persistent "they're due" front. What we've got here is a far better team with very workable odds. Rays lefty Jalen Beeks is making his first start, but he has a 1.72 ERA this season in mostly multi-inning relief stints. He's stretched out enough to go at least two and maybe three or four innings. The Rays bullpen is very rested, too.
This seems rather cheap. The Rays were off on Thursday so a full bullpen. They start Jalen Beeks but that doesn't much matter because he's just a two-inning opener -- albeit a good one with a 1.72 ERA. Then it will be Ryan Yarbrough. The Orioles played Thursday, ending a six-game skid with a walk-off vs. the Yankees (letdown game here?), and used a large chunk of their bullpen, including closer Jorge Lopez for a second straight game, so he's probably not available. Oh, and Tampa Bay has won 15 straight games in the series, a franchise record.
