Yankees vs. Cubs odds, lines: Proven model reveals MLB picks for July 8, 2023 matchup

SportsLine's Projection Model has generated picks and best bets for the Chicago Cubs vs. New York Yankees on Saturday afternoon

By@SportsLineUpdated: Jul 08, 2023 1:24PM UTC . 3 min read

The New York Yankees (48-41) are trying to avoid their second four-game losing streak since the beginning of June when they host the Chicago Cubs (41-46) on Saturday afternoon. New York has scored four combined runs in its last three games, getting shut out in a 3-0 final to open this series on Friday. Chicago is 4-8 in its last 12 games, but three of those wins have come in its last four games. Right-handed pitcher Gerrit Cole (8-2, 2.79 ERA) is going to start for New York, while southpaw Drew Smyly (7-5, 4.10 ERA) is taking the mound for Chicago.

The game is slated to begin at 1:05 p.m. ET from Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are listed at -190 (risk $190 to win $100) on the money line in the latest Yankees vs. Cubs odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while the over/under for total runs scored is 8.5. (see the latest lines for every game on our MLB odds page).

Before making any Cubs vs. Yankees picks, you NEED to see the latest MLB predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every MLB game 10,000 times. It went 331-285 on top-rated MLB money-line picks (+357) over the past two seasons. It has excelled on top-rated run-line picks this season, going 11-2 (+604). Anybody following has seen big returns!

The model knows Cole has allowed two runs or fewer 13 times this season, with the Yankees going 9-4 in those contests. He is 10-3 with a 2.53 ERA in 15 career starts against the Cubs, getting set to face them for the first time since striking out 12 in six innings in 2019. Smyly has struggled over his last seven outings, posting a 6.49 ERA during that stretch. First baseman Anthony Rizzo leads New York with a .258 average, 11 home runs and 38 RBI.

The model also knows Chicago has won three of its last four games, opening this series with a 3-0 win on Friday. Jameson Taillon allowed one hit across eight innings and combined with Adbert Alzolay for a two-hitter, marking the sixth time this season that the Cubs held an opponent to two hits or fewer. Cody Bellinger hit his ninth homer of the season and added a single to his career-best 13-game hitting streak. He is batting .479 during that stretch and .373 since returning from a knee injury on June 15.

Now, it has set its sights on Cubs vs. Yankees. We can tell you the model is leaning Over on the run total, and it also says one side of the money line has ALL the value! You ABSOLUTELY need to see it before locking in any MLB picks.
