The New York Yankees begin a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals in an interleague series of two of the most recognizable franchises in the MLB on Friday evening. The Yankees (45-36) won two out of three games against the Oakland Athletics to begin their six-game road trip. The Cardinals (33-47) have been one of the biggest disappointments of the 2023 MLB season and are currently in last place in the National League Central.
First pitch from Busch Stadium in St. Louis is set for 8:15 p.m. ET. New York is -115 on the money line (risk $115 to win $100) in the latest Yankees vs. Cardinals odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while the over/under for total runs scored is 9.5 (see the latest lines for every game on our MLB odds page).
Before making any Cardinals vs. Yankees picks, you NEED to see the latest MLB predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.
The model simulates every MLB game 10,000 times. It went 331-285 on top-rated MLB money-line picks (+357) over the past two seasons. It has opened the 2023 MLB season on a 36-28 roll on all-top rated MLB picks, including a 9-2 mark on top-rated run line picks (+450). Anybody who has followed it has seen profitable returns.
The model knows Yankees probable starting pitcher Luis Severino is coming off his best start of the season. The 29-year-old tossed six shutout innings against the Rangers, which leads baseball with 483 runs scored. The eight-year veteran has a career ERA of 3.49, including pitching to a 3.18 ERA last season. The model also knows shortstop Anthony Volpe got to a slow start to his career as one of the top prospects in baseball entering this season, but Volpe went 7-for-12 with a walk and two runs scored in the last series against Oakland.
The model also knows Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado, a seven-time All-Star, is coming off a strong series against the Astros. The 11-year veteran went 4-for-8 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored over three games against Houston and has at least one hit in five of his last six games. Teamed up with Paul Goldschmidt, who was the 19th-best OPS in baseball at .863, the Cardinals offer a strong duo for a Cardinals team that has failed to live up to expectations.
