Host Jonathan Coachman is joined by sports betting experts Mike McClure and Allie O'Neill on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball for Friday, Aug. 5.
Allie is leaning the White Sox first five inning line (-0.5) at Texas, as it appears to be a pitching mismatch between Chicago's red-hot Dylan Cease and struggling Rangers right-hander Glenn Otto: "Texas has lost six straight games behind Otto, and he has a 7.39 ERA at home. The White Sox have won four straight and eight of nine behind Cease, who has 1.30 road ERA. Let's take the bullpens out of it for a full game and focus on first five."
Coach has two MLB plays: Orioles (-145) at home vs. Pittsburgh and the Dodgers (-160) hosting the Padres to open an epic series between the rivals. "Baltimore is simply the better team and red hot, 7-3 in the past 10. I don't care about the starting pitchers in this one. ... I've been pounding the Dodgers day after day and winning, and they are pumped to face the Padres."
There's one SportsLine sit play today and it's for the English Premier League. The season's about to begin and we're backing Arsenal (-123) over Crystal Palace even though the Gunners have only won once in their last eight meetings with the Eagles. Arsenal spent a ton of money this offseason in player additions, led by Gabriel Jesus.
