Today's sports betting picks: Why the Rays will beat the Red Sox, plus more MLB and soccer best bets for Sunday, Aug. 28
The SportsLine crew shares its expert bets for Sunday, Aug. 28, on The Early Edge podcast

Allan Bell is joined by sports betting experts Mike McClure, John Bollman and Micah Roberts on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball and soccer for Sunday, Aug. 28.
Bell starts things off with the SportsLine Play of the Day. Courtesy of Jon "Buckets" Eimer, the play is a parlay in the English Premier League: Tottenham to win and score Over 1.5 goals (-140) against Nottingham Forest (11:30 a.m. ET). "Tottenham, they haven't lost a match and they've picked up seven points from their first three matches," Allan says. "They're going to be doing everything that they can to extend their lead over teams, hoping to finish in the top four with teams like Liverpool and Chelsea continuing to struggle."
McClure is up next with an MLB play. He likes the Reds Over 4 runs (-105) against the Nationals (1:35 p.m. ET). "(Washington's) Patrick Corbin, we've been over this many times about how bad he is," Mike says. "It's incredible that he has a starting rotation spot at this point (with a) .397 actual weighted on-base average. The good news is, he's been a little unlucky. The bad news is, the expected number is still .380, still making him the worst pitcher in Major League Baseball when we look at significant sample sizes of starting pitchers."
Roberts follows with an MLB play of his own. He likes Under 7 runs (-105) in the Dodgers-Marlins contest (12:05 p.m. ET). "I know I'm going to get a good outing out of (Miami's Edward) Cabrera because he's had four starts since coming back from injury and has not allowed a run yet," Micah says. "And then you've got the Marlins. They're batting .185 over the last seven days and they've scored three runs or less in 23 of their last 26 games. Most of those games have gone Under as well."
Bollman jumps in with his play, also in MLB. He likes the Rays (-120) to beat the Red Sox and avoid a three-game sweep (1:35 p.m. ET). "In his last two starts against the Red Sox, (Corey Kluber posted) a quality start in both," John says. "The Rays also are 8-4 against the Red Sox this season. The Rays' bullpen is ranked eighth while the Red Sox's bullpen is ranked 27th. … The Rays are 15-9 since the trade deadline while the Red Sox are 10-13. I think the Rays avoid the sweep on the road."
Bell wraps things up with The AB Pick 3. All three plays are in MLS as he likes both teams to score (-160) in the match between Atlanta United and DC United (4 p.m. ET), both teams to score (-155) in the game between Orlando City and NYCFC (7:30 p.m ET) and both teams to score (-175) in the contest between New England and the Los Angeles Galaxy (8 p.m. ET).
