Today's sports betting picks: Why the Dodgers will cover against the Marlins, plus more MLB and soccer best bets for Monday, Aug. 29
The SportsLine crew shares its expert bets for Monday, Aug. 29, on The Early Edge podcast

Allan Bell is joined by sports betting experts Allie O'Neill, Zack Cimini and Larry Hartstein on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball and soccer for Monday, Aug. 29.
Bell starts things off with the SportsLine Play of the Day, which is courtesy of John Bollman: The Reds (+180) to beat the Cardinals in the opener of their three-game series (6:40 p.m. ET). "This play is all about the Sunday Night Baseball curse," Allan says. "The team that plays on Sunday Night Baseball and then has to travel has lost eight straight games. So we're going to ride it."
Cimini is up next with a play in MLB. He likes the Dodgers (-1.5 at -140) to cover against the Marlins in the finale of their four-game set (6:40 p.m. ET). "It's been a one-sided (season) series, with the Dodgers winning five games (and losing) one," Zack says. "They've been scoring runs left and right - 38 runs in those five wins. Fourteen of those 38 runs have come against the Marlins' bullpen. … Pablo Lopez has been an extreme downgradable pitcher post All-Star break - especially at home, where the Marlins have gone 0-4 in his four starts (and been) outscored 31-9."
O'Neill follows with an MLB play of her own. She likes Over 5 runs for the Blue Jays (-125) against the Cubs in the opener of their three-game series (7:07 p.m. ET). "The Cubs are starting Javier Assad, and this is only his second start," Allie says. "The Jays really did have a hard time scoring against the Angels in their last series, so I think at home today with (Jose) Berrios behind them, they'll be able to pick it up - especially against Assad because I just don't think he'll be able to be the one to keep them cold."
Hartstein jumps in with an MLB play. He likes Under 1.5 runs in the first five innings for the Marlins (-145) in their game against the Dodgers. "They have to face Tony Gonsolin. He has a 2.10 ERA, but in August - four starts, two runs. That's a 0.76 ERA. Only 10 hits allowed in 23 ⅔ innings," Larry says. "This guy's making a late push for the Cy Young at 16-1. The Marlins, we know how bad their offense is. It's even worse at home, they've scored three runs in the last two games and are coming off just getting two hits."
Bell wraps things up with The AB Pick 3. He likes Over 3.5 runs for the Reds (-120) in their contest versus the Cardinals, both teams to score (+105) in the La Liga match between Atletico Madrid and Valencia (4 p.m. ET) and Over 1.5 goals for Atletico Madrid (+120) in the game.
