Stars vs. Oilers odds, 2023-24 NHL lines: Advanced computer model reveals hockey picks for Thursday's matchup

The SportsLine Projection Model has a pick for Thursday's NHL Western Conference Final Game 1 matchup between the Dallas Stars and Edmonton Oilers

The Dallas Stars host the Edmonton Oilers in Game 1 of the NHL's 2024 Western Conference Final on Thursday. Pete DeBoer's team stood tall for a 2-1 double-overtime win against the Colorado Avalanche in Game 6 of the previous round, which concluded last week. The Oilers just finished their second-round series on Monday, holding off the Vancouver Canucks for a 3-2 victory in Game 6.

Opening faceoff at American Airlines Center is set for 8:30 p.m. ET. Dallas is a -130 favorite (risk $130 to win $100) on the money line in the latest Stars vs. Oilers odds from SportsLine consensus while Edmonton is a +109 underdog. The over/under for total goals scored is 6 and Dallas is a -1.5 (+190) favorite on the puck line. (See the latest lines for every game on our NHL odds page).

Before making any Stars vs. Oilers picks, you NEED to see the latest NHL predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

SportsLine's model simulates every NHL game 10,000 times, taking into account factors like current form, individual matchups, injuries and short- and long-term trends when making NHL picks. It entered the 2024 NHL playoffs on a 7-4 run on top-rated puck-line picks.

The model knows the Oilers pack a lot of offensive firepower. Zach Hyman leads all players still in the Stanley Cup playoffs with 11 goals while Leon Draisaitl tops all skaters with 24 points and six power-play goals. Connor McDavid remains pivotal for the Oilers as he leads all skaters in the postseason with 19 assists as he aims to make it to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in his impressive career. If Edmonton's top players are dialed in for the whole series, McDavid may finally get there.

However, the model also knows that Dallas' goaltending isn't likely to bend to the Oilers the way the Canucks did. Jake Oettinger has been outstanding for Dallas, registering a 2.09 goals-against average and .918 save percentage through eight victories in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Stars also have a lot of depth scoring. Even with Roope Hintz ruled out for Game 1, Dallas can get goals anywhere from top-line center Wyatt Johnston to defenseman Miro Heiskanen.

Now, the model has set its sights on Stars vs. Oilers. We can tell you it's leaning Under on the goal total, but it also says one side of the money line has ALL the value! You ABSOLUTELY need to see it before locking in any NHL picks of your own.
