2026 Fantasy Football breakout rankings: Two second-year players join one rookie to lead our top 10

We rank our favorite breakouts for 2026 Fantasy Football drafts, including several young stars in the making.

I've ranked my top 20 sleeper candidates to be found outside the top 96 players of consensus rankings, and now we'll turn our attention to that group of players expected to be taken in the top eight rounds of 12-team leagues to find the best 10 players to return value as 2026 Fantasy football breakouts.

In order to be a successful breakout, a player from this group must establish a new career best in Fantasy points per game and finish either twice as high as their positional ranking in the same category, or five spots higher for those in the top 10 at their position. In other words, a player in the top five of his position is ineligible for our breakout list. The player ranked sixth must finish No. 1 to be a successful breakout, and our divide-by-2 formula starts applying from No. 11 on.

In practice, this means that while my top breakout picks last year delivered plenty of draft value, they did not quite meet our aggressive criteria to earn breakout status. Rookies like Tet McMillan and Omarion Hampton established new career highs by default and while they provided value on their ADPs, they didn't quite get into breakout range with McMillan needing to finish inside the top 14 at receiver and Hampton inside the top eight at running back. Rome Odunze and D'Andre Swift were two of our other picks who established career-best Fantasy numbers but didn't jump high enough up to earn a green checkmark for our purposes.

This year, we're using the FantasyPros consensus rankings instead of ADP, which will change greatly in the coming weeks. While my list may again fall a little short of our aggressive breakout standards when all is said and done, the players below represent my target list for the first eight rounds of drafts as those I believe have the best chance at returning significant positive value.
