Shane van Gisbergen aims for his second victory in six career NASCAR Cup Series starts when he competes in the 2024 Grant Park 165 on the Chicago Street Course on Sunday. A three-time champion of Australia's Supercars Championship and a rookie in the Xfinity Series this season, van Gisbergen finished 1.259 seconds ahead of Justin Haley in the inaugural Chicago Street Race last year to win his Cup Series debut. The 35-year-old New Zealander became the seventh driver to capture the checkered flag in his initial Cup Series race and first since Johnny Rutherford in 1963.
Van Gisbergen and Tyler Reddick are 6-1 co-favorites in the latest 2024 Grant Park 165 odds. Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell are 13-2, while Chase Elliott is 17-2 in the 2024 NASCAR at Chicago odds. Sunday's race is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. ET.
Before making any NASCAR at Chicago picks, be sure to see what CBS Sports NASCAR writer Steven Taranto has to say.
Taranto, who moonlights as a sim racer and has 20 career wins in iRacing, is the lead NASCAR writer for CBSSports.com, and he chronicles stock car racing with the same thoroughness and passion that he's had since becoming a full-time race fan in 2001. He has an annual NASCAR media credential and also publishes a popular weekly NASCAR predictions column, famously calling Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez's breakthrough wins in 2022. Taranto has been red-hot for SportsLine in 2024, nailing 10 winners, including 16-1 longshot William Byron at the Daytona 500 and 14-1 longshot Elliott at Texas. Anybody following his NASCAR picks has seen HUGE returns!
For the 2024 Grant Park 165, we can tell you Taranto is high on Christopher Bell, who won two stages at this race last year. Another curveball: He's fading William Byron, even though he won at Circuit of the Americas earlier this year. "The feeling around the No. 24 team is certainly far different than it was when he came storming out of the gate this year with three wins in the first eight races. Byron is in a rut right now, with only one finish better than 15th and three finishes of 19th or worse in his last five starts," Taranto told SportsLine.
Taranto also locked in four more Grant Park 165 best bets and is high on a MAJOR longshot who is getting higher than 75-1 odds! You ABSOLUTELY need to see his picks before locking in any NASCAR picks of your own.
