Rafael Nadal won his first title at Roland Garros as a teenager in 2005, and the 22-time Grand Slam champion will compete in possibly his final French Open this week. Nadal has won 14 titles on the clay in Paris, but he has to open his 2024 campaign against No. 4 seed Alexander Zverev in the first round on Monday. The Spaniard has only played in 15 matches since last January due to various injuries, and he is coming off a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Hubert Hurkacz in the Italian Open. Zverev wound up winning that tournament, taking down Nicolas Jarry in the final. He has the fourth-shortest French Open futures odds at +600.
Monday's Zverev vs. Nadal showdown is set to start at 9 a.m. ET. Zverev is the -385 favorite (risk $385 to win $100) in the latest Nadal vs. Zverev odds, while Nadal is a +300 underdog. The over/under for total games is 36.5, with Zverev favored by 5.5 games (-128).
Before you make any Nadal vs. Zverev picks or 2024 French Open predictions, make sure you see what tennis expert Blake Von Hagen has to say.
Von Hagen has followed tennis closely for years, keeping an eye on young players before they turn into stars. His dedication to the sport allows him to find value on the Challenger Tour and the ATP Tour alike.
Von Hagen routinely attends ATP events, including at the Challenger level. He keeps up with injuries, form and line movement to identify the best bets of the day. His research allowed him to nail Carlos Alcaraz as a 22-1 longshot to win the 2022 US Open, jumping on board before the market adjusted. He went 20-9 (+11.4u) in the 2024 Rome Masters 1000 earlier this month, nailing three first-round upsets and returning more than $1,100 for $100 bettors in that tournament!
Von Hagen knows Nadal has won a staggering 14 French Open titles, which are the most at a single major by any man. He has a perfect 18-0 record in the first round of this event and owns a 7-3 head-to-head record against Zverev. Nadal is 112-3 all-time at the French Open, with two of his losses coming against Novak Djokovic. He is seeking the 23rd Grand Slam title of his career.
But Von Hagen also has considered that Zverev is coming off a Rome Masters 1000 title, winning five of his six matches in straight sets. The big-serving German made a run to the semifinals of this tournament last year, despite still working his way back to full health following a serious ankle injury that he suffered during the 2022 French Open. This has been the best Grand Slam of his career, as he has made three straight semifinal appearances at Roland Garros compared to four total at all other majors.
For Sunday, Von Hagen has scrutinized the Nadal vs. Zverev matchup in the first round of the 2024 French Open and released his coveted top picks. We can tell you that he is leaning Over 36.5 Total Games (-110), but he has two STRONG picks, one on the game spread and one on a prop bet. You ABSOLUTELY need to see what they are before locking in any 2024 French Open picks of your own!
