Italy and Argentina face off Monday in an important Group G opener in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. These teams are in a group with Sweden, the world's third-ranked team behind the USWNT and Germany. The match from Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand, kicks off at 2 a.m. ET. The Italians are -165 favorites (risk $165 to win $100) in Caesars Sportsbook's latest Italy vs. Argentina odds, with Argentina +475 underdogs. Before you bet on the Argentina vs. Italy match or make any other FIFA Women's World Cup predictions, you must see what SportsLine's soccer expert Martin Green has to say.
After working in the sports betting industry for several years, Green became a professional sports writer and handicapper and has covered the game worldwide. Since last year's World Cup, Green has been profitable in multiple areas on his soccer picks, including the Champions League (+4.78 units), the FA Cup (+3.07), the EFL Cup (+3.64), Euro 2024 qualifiers (+3.01) and the Europa League (+1.60).
Green knows several players from Italy's 2019 quarterfinal run at the World Cup were left out. Manager Milena Bertolini decided to go with an inexperienced but talented side, with Manuela Giugliano leading the attack. The 25-year-old has rare vision to find passing lanes to set up players like Cristiana Girelli and Valentina Giacinti. Girelli has 46 international goals in 78 matches, and Giacinti scored 13 to help Roma to their first Serie A title last season.
The expert also has considered that the Argentines are progressing after two years off as they fought for improved conditions. They managed draws against Japan and Scotland in France in 2019 but still seek a first World Cup victory. Estefanía Banini, named to the world's best starting 11 in 2021, is the key to the attack. Midfielder Lorena Benitez has tons of experience despite being just 24. She made her professional debut before her 14th birthday.
