The 2022 Wells Fargo Championship tees off Thursday, and Rory McIlroy will come in on a high as he tries to defend his title. The event will be played this year at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm in Potomac, Md., as Quail Hollow will be hosting the Presidents Cup in September and is unavailable. McIlroy, who shot 10 under par to edge Abraham Ancer by one stroke last year in Charlotte, comes in off a final-round 64 to finish as runner-up at the Masters in his last outing.
McIlroy is the clear 8-1 favorite in the latest 2022 Wells Fargo Championship golf odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Corey Conners is the next choice at 20-1, followed by Tony Finau (22-1), Matt Fitzpatrick (22-1) and Abraham Ancer (28-1).
Before you consider any bets on the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship or make any PGA Tour predictions, you HAVE TO see what golf expert Jim Holliman has to say.
Holliman has been a writer and editor nearly 25 years and has been playing and following the game closely for more than three decades. The Florida-based writer knows what it takes to win on the PGA Tour and how the players' games fit the courses.
Holliman NAILED In his most recent predictions before the Zurich Classic, taking the teams of Billy Horschel-Sam Burns and Xander Schauffele-Patrick Cantlay as his top two picks. Schauffele and Cantlay led wire-to-wire after a record 59 in Thursday's opening round and finished 29 under (also a record) to hold off runners-up Horschel and Burns by two strokes.
And before the Masters, Holliman listed Scottie Scheffler among his contenders, predicting that his lack of accuracy off the tee would not hinder him. In fact, the wide landing areas at Augusta allowed the world's No. 1 player to have his best driving week of the season, hitting almost 77 percent of his fairways. Of course, he eased to his fourth victory of the season, winning by three strokes.
Now, Holliman has released his confident 2022 Wells Fargo Championship picks. SHOCKINGLY, the golf expert is fading McIlroy, the clear favorite. The Northern Irishman is still susceptible to the bad round that will dash his hopes, which he has shown again and again. The way he closed out the Masters showed his talent remains, and he certainly should be in the mix, but the expert wouldn't bet on a victory.
Instead, the golf expert is picking a HUGE long shot to win who comes in at more than 30-1. This player is overdue for a victory, and he crushes the ball off the tee and makes his putts. That's a winning combination for Avenel, and he could pull off a STUNNING victory. Anyone who backs this underdog could make a HUGE profit!
