2022 USFL Generals vs. Stallions game line, odds: Top pro football expert releases pick for Saturday night's opener

R.J. White is SportsLine's top pro football expert and went 16-4 on his XFL picks in the spring of 2020, and he has released his pick for Saturday's kickoff game between New Jersey and Birmingham

The USFL is finally back in action -- after a 36-year layoff -- with the Birmingham Stallions taking on the New Jersey Generals on Saturday night in the inaugural game of USFL 2022. All games will played in Birmingham, Ala., until the 2022 USFL playoffs, which are scheduled to be in Canton, Ohio. Eight teams are in for the inaugural season, with names culled from the previous version of the league.

Kickoff at Protective Stadium is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Birmingham is a three-point favorite in the latest Generals vs. Stallions odds from Caesars Sportsbook, and the over-under for total points scored is 41.

Before making any Stallions vs. Generals picks or any other USFL predictions, you NEED to see which side SportsLine pro football expert R.J. White is on.

White is CBS Sports' Fantasy and gambling editor and is SportsLine's No. 1 NFL expert in against-the-spread picks. White went 445-378-24 on ATS picks on the NFL from 2017-21, returning $2,542 to $100 players. It's no surprise, as White has cashed huge twice in the world's most prestigious football handicapping competition, the Las Vegas SuperContest.

His many years of experience in analyzing statistics and trends allowed him to crush his picks in the last major spring pro football league. He hit 16 of his 20 spread picks on the XFL in 2020 before the pandemic forced the league to shut down. Anyone who has followed White's picks has cashed in HUGE.

White knows the Stallions should have the home-field advantage throughout the season if the crowds show up. The team is coached by longtime college coach Skip Holtz and has a pair of solid QBs in Alex McGough and J'Mar Smith. McGough was drafted in the seventh round by the Seahawks in 2018 out of FIU, and the more mobile Smith started for Holtz at Louisiana Tech. Both could end up seeing significant action. The  defense should be led by linebacker Scooby Wright and a secondary with some NFL experience.

The expert also has considered that New Jersey is led by former San Diego Chargers and Nebraska coach Mike Riley but will need to find stability at QB. First-round pick Ben Holmes was released after an injury, so athletically gifted De'Andre Johnson and previous minor-league star Luiz Perez will battle it out. New Jersey should have a strong running game and great size among the pass-catchers. Former Ohio State running back Mike Weber and well-traveled former Texas A&M back Trey Williams should carry the load.

White is leaning Under on the total in this one, and he's locked in on a critical x-factor that's led him to another confident against-the-spread pick for Generals vs. Stallions. You ABSOLUTELY need to see his predictions before locking in any picks of your own.
