Small sprinkle on this because I like MACtion (grad of one of those schools) and the self-entertainment of monitoring the "Toilet Bowl" of the 2023 season between 1-7 teams (both wins over FCS schools) and 0-4 in the MAC. They don't even combine to average 30 ppg. So why not hit the Under 39? Because they combine to allow about 62 ppg. I have no clue what will happen, but Akron is slightly better statistically across the board and at home, so ... we'll take the Zips to win the Wagon Wheel -- which reminds me of that great scene in my favorite movie of all-time "When Harry Met Sally."
Here are Kent's scoring outputs in its last five games: 10, 3, 17, 14 and 6 points. Here are Akron's in five of the last six: 10, 4, 10, 14 and 3. The Zips went south offensively when QB Demarcus Irons (knee) was scratched for the season. His replacements have three times as many interceptions as TD passes. Even their placekicking is disastrous; field goal attempts are hitting at under 50 percent. Kent's offense? Bad from the get-go, with all 11 starters new. Both defenses are decent, so a game in the 30s is foreseeable.
