Although there’s little doubt the Horned Frogs will see some regression from their magical run to the CFP title game, the returnees are cloaked in a winning tradition, and they still have some solid components. QB Chandler Morris beat out Max Duggan and was the opening-day starter last year before a knee injury in Week 1 thrust the veteran Duggan into the spotlight. Conversely, the Buffaloes have been a bit of a circus show since Deion Sanders came to Boulder, and don’t be surprised if his debut ends in disaster. Colorado has just nine returning scholarship players and the program has added a whopping 57 players since its much-hype spring game in April. This one could get out of hand early.
I might be way too high on the Buffaloes at the outset but Coach Prime has injected plenty of talent into the program. How they will gel is the biggest question, especially against a team that most recently played in the National Championship Game. With the Horned Frogs having only three returning starters, I would be surprised if they came out crisp so giving away three touchdowns seems too much for the opener. I'd like this line even more at +21 or +21.5.
Don't be fooled by Coach Prime. He may eventually win in Boulder, but the unprecedented roster overhaul of this offseason will make winning hard in Year 1. The offensive line, for example, may feature three new starters without Power 5 experience. Meanwhile, though TCU lost several key players from last year's national runner-up team, including Heisman Trophy finalist Max Duggan, the Horned Frogs have a talented QB in Chandler Morris, who beat out Duggan to start out last season. The defense brings back seven starters. I'm on TCU.
Let’s be real … this game is a matchup between a TCU team that is an established power that just played in the national title game against an incredibly hyped up team that can barely field a roster. The Deion Sanders buzz with the Buffaloes is awesome for the sport, and I hope that it will work out for the ultra-starved fan base. However, the Chandler Morris show will eliminate any chance the Buffs have by halftime, and this one will get very sideways after four full quarters.
