UConn was a nice story last season, but it got lucky in a couple of games, which skewed its final record. NC State is much better at the lines of scrimmage, and could have a potent offense.
Year two for Jim Mora at UConn starts at home against the NC State Wolfpack. The Mora-led Huskies were a great against the spread team going 9-4 ATS, including 5-1 ATS at home. Devin Leary is now at Kentucky so the Wolfpack will need Virginia transfer Brennan Armstrong to be dominant in his first start. Getting the Huskies at above the key number of 14 is a great line. Take the points.
The Huskies went from 1-11 in 2021 to 6-7 in coach Jim Mora's first season in Connecticut and should be even better in Year 2. They return 76% of their production (ninth best in the country), which includes four of five offensive linemen and Butkus Award semifinalist Jackson Mitchell. Meanwhile NC State will be breaking in several young players on defense and a new offensive philosophy under first year coordinator Robert Anae. UConn is 7-2 ATS in its past nine games, while the Wolfpack are 5-16 ATS in their past 21 road games. Give me the Huskies.
The Huskies overachieved last season in Jim Mora's first season at UConn. They return a bevy of starters, especially on the defense. Facing a QB in Brennan Armstrong who's a bit turnover-prone could help them steal a few possessions away, while the experienced OL and run game could help them salt this one away as well.
U-Conn head coach Jim Mora announced senior Joe Fagnano won the starting QB job in a hard-fought competition. Add that to the 16 returning starters, eight on defense, and four offensive linemen, and they’re set for back-to-back bowl appearances. The running game will be the key to winning this bet behind sophomore Victor Rosa. NC State returns only 10 starters and has a new QB, a new group of three safeties, and a new kicker. I took the points with U-Conn.
