DUKE'S MAYO BOWL -- While Wisconsin has had an unusual season with COVID cancellations, etc., the Badgers remain incredibly strong on the defensive end. That unit ranks second nationally in efficiency and leads the nation in yards allowed, first downs allowed and third-down conversions against. Offensively, the Badgers per usual want to pound the ball behind one of the nation's best offensive lines, and Wake struggles to stop the run, allowing 191.0 ypg. This should be a double-digit Wisconsin win.
DUKE'S MAYO BOWL -- Wisconsin has one of the best offensive lines in college football and is No. 1 in total defense, but freshman QB Graham Mertz is part of the reason I’m betting Wake Forest. Another reason is that I like Demon Deacons QB Sam Hartman, who threw only one interception while covering six of their eight games. In Mertz’s last four contests, the Badgers lost three and didn’t cover any as he threw two TD passes and six interceptions. Wake Forest, which led the nation in turnover margin (plus-13), is the play.
It’s hard to trust Wisconsin’s offense and Wake Forest padded its offensive stats against bad defenses in 2020. The Under has hit in four of six Wisconsin games and the weather is supposed to be chilly in Charlotte on Wednesday. This one will be an old-school, sloppy affair.
