NEW MEXICO BOWL -- At full strength and in non-2020 circumstances, Houston would get the nod. But the Cougars, who have endured eight postponements or cancellations this season while squeezing in seven games, are down 15 to 20 players. The key absentee is formidable WR Marquez Stevenson, who opted out. With dual threat QB Chevan Cordeiro, Hawaii’s offense is well-suited to move the chains in a projected windy affair that could keep the scoring down. The Rainbows’ 20th-ranked defense can counter Houston’s fine QB, Clayton Tune. The Coogs have dropped three consecutive bowls to Mountain West members.
NEW MEXICO BOWL -- Only in this wacky 2020 season could the New Mexico Bowl actually be played in Frisco, Texas. Houston is certainly the better team than Hawaii and doesn't have to travel far, but on Tuesday coach Dana Holgorsen said his team will be down "15-to-20" players due to eligibility requirements. In addition, a few other guys opted out, including third-leading receiver Marquez Stevenson. That's enough for me to think Hawaii can stay close if not win outright depending on whom is in the "15-to-20" group.
