Now that this spread has soared past five touchdowns, sportsbook operators are practically begging for takers on Georgia Tech. Raises hand. Not the sexiest underdog by any means, but I've seen worse. New coach Geoff Collins averaged 35 ppg at Temple last year with somewhat limited options in a spread-based offense. He's starting from scratch amid the departure of the polarizing Paul Johnson. He doesn't have a lot to work with, but KirVonte Benson rushed for 1,053 yards in 2017 before sitting out with an injury last season. This will basically be a homecoming ceremony for Clemson following its title run, and the Tigers don't usually look to pile it on in these spots.
New Georgia Tech head coach Geoff Collins plans to usher in a new offensive era with the Yellow Jackets. So, we will see much more passing than before from Tech, the question is do they have the horses to make that transition seamlessly right away? That's not what you want to hear when you're facing the reigning national champions in Clemson. And yes, the Tigers are replacing some significant starters on defense, but offensively, they return eight including Heisman candidate QB Trevor Lawrence.
Clemson has lost only four games between the past four seasons and the Tigers beat Georgia Tech all four years, but none of those were by more than 28-points. It's amazing that Clemson has been such a good cover team despite a constantly rising rating. The number usually catches up with all teams eventually, and I think this is it. Georgia Tech has a new head coach in Geoff Collins and I expect his squad to play hard. I took the points with Tech.
