Few scenes in college football match Lane Stadium during a crisp, cool game night. When 65,000 fans hit the initial chords of Enter Sandman, the bleachers bounce under your feet.
It's easy to see why the betting public is drawn to Virginia Tech for Friday night's game against Pitt. Backing the Hokies as a short home favorite feels almost automatic, especially when they hold a substantial edge in point differential over the Panthers (+102 to +64). And sportsbooks have shaded the number out to a juiced -4 on the heels of home-field hype.
Virginia Tech vs. Pitt is the centerpiece of this Week 5 betting preview and fits into a betting system that has hit at a 70.6% rate since 2020. But that is not even the best system play of the week. I have another strong selection for Saturday that feels almost too good to be true and is based on a system hitting at nearly 80% since 2005.
Both systems have produced a selection, which is rated on a confidence scale from 0 to 5, where 5 means the highest level of confidence. I will also share my model's projection, which is a completely separate predictive metric. When my model and the system agree, that selection is more likely to bring home cash.
