Syracuse vs. Clemson ACC basketball odds, bracketology: Tigers taking heavy spread action as they look to climb onto NCAA Tournament bubble

Once atop the ACC basketball standings and ranked as high as No. 19 in the AP Top 25, Clemson has fallen on hard times. The Tigers have lost lost four of five and aren't even on the NCAA Tournament bubble as things stand. A loss at home to mediocre Syracuse Wednesday night would essentially end the Tigers' at-large chances. Clemson opened as a 3-point favorite but is now -5 at FanDuel due to heavy betting action.

As of this writing, 90% of the handle 79% of the total bets are on Clemson. At -205 on the moneyline, the Tigers are taking 81% of the money and 60% of the handle.

The slide for coach Brad Brownell's club began with a 62-54 loss at a bad Boston College team on Jan. 31. However, that defeat was easily trumped by a puzzling 83-73 loss at atrocious Louisville on Saturday, only the Cardinals' fourth overall victory this season and second in the ACC. It's perhaps no surprise after the loss that Clemson isn't even listed among the First Four Out at CBS Sports or ESPN for the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers, who are 13-1 at home, have a NET ranking of 82.

Clemson (19-8, 11-5 ACC) can finish in the Top 4 of the ACC regular-season standings and earn a double-bye in the conference tournament – it currently sits fourth, but NC State and Duke are just a half-game back. The Tigers have never won 12 conference games in a season. They have three wins by exactly one point so far this year, all against ACC foes. The single-season ACC record is five one-point wins.

Graduate student Hunter Tyson has played 133 career games at Clemson and will tie Cliff Hammonds, K.C. Rivers, Trevor Booker and David Potter for the most all-time at the school tonight. Tyson is 14th in the nation in double-doubles (12) and second in the ACC.

Is this the final season as Syracuse head coach for Hall of Famer Jim Boeheim? It might be time for him to step aside, as the Orange (16-11, 9-7 ACC) are going to miss the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year barring a title run in the ACC Tournament. They have a NET ranking of 99 and are 0-6 in Quad 1 games.

Syracuse had a three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday in a 77-55 blowout home loss to Duke. The Blue Devils hit 13 of 26 3-point attempts, shot 55% overall and out-rebounded the Orange 38-25. Senior guard Joseph Girard III (21 points) notched his 10th game of the season of 20 or more points for Syracuse. He leads the team in scoring at 17.0 points per game.

Clemson leads the all-time series 7-6 but has lost the past two. Syracuse has not won at Littlejohn Coliseum since 2017 but doesn't play there every season. This is the only scheduled meeting between the teams.
