The Rockies are hot garbage on the road (2-11) and against right-handed pitchers (8-15). They could easily be blanked tonight by Cards ace righty Jack Flaherty (5-0, 3.41). St. Louis bats seem to come alive when he pitches, too, as the team has scored 61 runs in his first six starts. Rox lefty Austin Gomber (2-3, 5.90) was a former Cardinals prospect who was part of the Nolan Arenado trade. Gomber is 1-2 with a 7.20 ERA in four road starts this year. The Cardinals should win by at least two runs so runline it is at -103.
I have been fading the Rockies on the road all year and Friday they get Jack Flaherty and the Cardinals. Flaherty has opposing hitters batting at 0.056 AVG on his fastball when at home and rocks a nasty put-away slider to back it up. I love this spot for him, so to be given close to even money (-1.5, -105) is the type of start to a Friday you want to see. The Rockies also normally lose by multiple runs, as 10 of their last 11 road losses have come by two or more runs.
To get the -1.5 run line at +100 is beautiful, because this game just screams blowout. The Rockies are atrocious on the road (2-11 this season). They've even pitched worse on the road than in Coors Field. Cardinals starter Jack Flaherty has a 2.10 ERA since his bad opening day start and he's been nearly a run better at home than on the road throughout his career. It's difficult to see the Rockies staying within a run here. We said similar sentiment last week in taking the Cardinals on the run line and it worked. Stick with what works.
