Jonathan Coachman is joined by expert sports bettors Ian Parker, Allan Bell and Justin Perri on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for the NFL, Major League Baseball and UFC Fight Night for Saturday, Aug. 21.
Parker starts things off with three plays from UFC Fight Night. The first is Roosevelt Roberts (-150) over Ignacio Bahamondes in a preliminary fight. "We saw Bahamondes struggle in his last fight in his UFC debut against someone that in my opinion would lose to Roberts," Parker says. "Roberts will be the faster striker here."
He also likes Alexandre Pantoja (-175) over Brandon Royval. "Pantoja looked absolutely flawless in his fight against Manel Kape," Parker says. "This is the guy that we've been waiting for to fight for the title. He should get it done. He will be better everywhere."
And in the main event, Parker is taking Jared Cannonier (-140) over Kelvin Gastelum. "Gastelum used to have success with his wrestling," Parker says. "Not anymore. It's too predictable. He's too confident."
Bell's pair of picks comes in the NFL. The first is the Texans (+3.5) to cover against the Cowboys (8 p.m. ET). "Houston is a dangerous preseason team," Bell says. "They are even distributing the ball both in the passing game and in the rushing game."
He also likes Under 35.5 in the Ravens-Panthers game (7 p.m. ET). "This is going to be a dirty, ugly, not-clean type of game whatsoever," he says.
Perri has three picks, all from Major League Baseball. The first is the Yankees to cover the -1.5 run line against the Twins (1:05 p.m. ET). "The Yankees have just been dominating this series at home," he says. "They've only lost one of their last [15] games against the Twins at Yankee Stadium."
He also likes Over 11.5 runs in the Rockies-Diamondbacks game (8:10 p.m. ET). "Bad bullpens, mediocre starters," Perri says.
Perri closes things out with Over 9.5 in the Cubs-Royals game (2:20 p.m. ET). "We love low air density," he says. "We love the wind blowing out. Mediocre pitching here again."
