Allan Bell is filling in for the vacationing Jonathan Coachman and is joined by expert sports bettor Justin Perri on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for Major League Baseball and soccer for Saturday, July 31.
Bell starts things off with two SportsLine Plays of the Day, both from the Club America-Necaxa Liga MX match (8 p.m. ET): Club America to win (-170) and both teams to score (+100).
Perri's three-pack of picks comes in MLB. The first is Under 8.5 runs in the Mets-Reds game (7:10 p.m. ET). "Both these teams struggle a bit against lefties," he says. Also, "Citi Field is sill one of the best Under parks in baseball," he says. "The Under is 32-15 with four pushes. In the last nine games at Citi, only three games have gone Over."
He also likes the Red Sox (+101) to beat the Rays (6:10 p.m. ET). "[Rays starter Ryan Yarbrough] has gotten shelled by the Red Sox this year," Perri says. "He has allowed 14 runs, 11 of them earned, in just seven innings pitched and struck out just four batters in both appearances combined."
Perri's last pick is the A's (-135) to beat the Angels (4:05 p.m. ET). "[Oakland starter Cole Irvin] has only allowed more than four runs one time in 20 starts this season," Perri says.
Bell closes things out with his only play of the day: Angels +1.5 (-130) to cover the runline against the A's. "I think that the Angels bats do come alive a little bit," he says.
