Jonathan Coachman is joined by expert sports bettors Mike McClure and Allan Bell on The Early Edge podcast. They give you their best bets for the NFL, college football, Major League Baseball, the Premier League and UFC Fight Night for Saturday, Aug. 28.
Coach starts things off with three SportsLine Plays of the Day. The first is Under 2.5 goals in the Liverpool-Chelsea match (12:30 p.m. ET). "Two of the best teams in the Premier League," Coach says. "They have great defenses, great talent. They're just really, really good. We think they're going to cancel each other out."
The second Play of the Day comes from UFC Fight Night: Giga Chikadze (-110) to beat Edson Barboza in the main event. "Edson Barboza used to be a good name [but is] now kind of on the back end of his career," Coach says.
The final Play of the Day is Over 8.5 runs in the Astros-Rangers game (7:05 p.m. ET). "Sixty-six percent of the time in simulations this goes Over," Coach says.
McClure's pair of picks comes in college football. The first is UCLA (-10) to cover the first half spread against Hawaii (3:30 p.m. ET). "[Hawaii's] offensive coordinator said their goal is to snap the ball as many times as possible," McClure says. "I think that's going to lead to turnovers."
He also likes Nebraska (-0.5) to cover the first quarter spread against Illinois (1:20 p.m. ET). "I don't think [the Illini] are going to be able to stop Nebraska's run game here," McClure says. "That's going to open things up for [Adrian] Martinez a lot."
Bell's pair of picks comes in the NFL. The first is the Packers (+9.5) to cover against the Bills (1 p.m. ET). "I'm going to fade [the Bills] this week because I think that Buffalo has seen everything that they need," Bell says. "They don't need anything else to know in the preseason. They've got bigger plans."
Bell closes things out with Over 32.5 points in the Ravens-Washington Football Team game (6 p.m. ET). "If you look at Baltimore and Washington, in both of their games -- all four total they've played this preseason -- they've scored 17 points or more each," he says.
