The 2023 season was considered a "down year" for the Tennessee Titans. After six consecutive seasons with at least nine victories, the Titans slipped to 7-9 under Mike Vrabel, though the team was highly competitive to the end. A strong start gave way to a seven-game losing streak to end the season but, even as that transpired, Tennessee was within five points or fewer in three of the last four weeks. In some respects, Tennessee appears to be in transition from a roster standpoint, but the core triumvirate of Vrabel, running back Derrick Henry, and quarterback Ryan Tannehill returns to provide stability.

Tennessee's defense put several impressive characteristics on the field a season ago. The Titans finished No. 3 in the NFL in third down conversion rate allowed, forcing opponents into difficult decisions and punts on a regular basis. Tennessee also led the league in rushing yards allowed (1,307) and yards per carry allowed (3.4), making teams one-dimensional in the process. Unfortunately, the Titans sunk to the bottom of the league in passing defense and didn't make overarching personnel changes to overhaul that unit.

On offense, everything still runs through Henry. He finished with more than 1,500 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns a year ago, even while missing a game. Henry is arguably the most dynamic pure runner in the league and, while he could be slowing down if a normal aging curve emerges, all indications are that Tennessee will continue to lean on his legs. The Titans continue to be efficient and effective on the ground, and the passing game springs off that ground game.

Tannehill remains a steady hand, though the Titans haven't been quite the same since sending AJ Brown to Philadelphia. Robert Woods, who led the team in receiving last season, is gone, but up-and-comer Treylon Burks is in line for a larger role. More importantly, DeAndre Hopkins is now in town to operate as the No. 1 receiver, and that infusion of talent could be significant. Tennessee also used its first round pick on the offensive line and, if Tannehill falters, second rounder Will Levis could get the call for the Titans. Overall, the Titans are projected to be competitive this season, but opinions vary wildly on the team's overall projection.
