There have been 13 Triple Crown winners among the 36 horses who won both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. Neither of those numbers will increase following the 2026 Preakness Stakes as Derby champion, Golden Tempo, is bypassing The Run for the Black-Eyed Susans. It's the second year in a row, and third time in the last five years, that the Kentucky Derby winner is not competing in the Preakness Stakes.
