NFL odds revealed on where A.J. Green will play if Bengals don't franchise tag him

SportsLine oddsmakers reveal odds on where A.J. Green will play if he isn't franchise tagged.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green has been one of the best pass catchers of the modern era. He's caught 602 passes for 8,907 yards and 63 touchdowns in his career and has made seven Pro Bowls.

However, at 31, his contract is expiring and his future is at least a little bit uncertain for the first time in his career. The Bengals are considering franchise tagging him this offseason and Green wouldn't turn down that sort of coin, but the projected cost will be nearly $18.5 million for the 2020 season and that's a lot to shell out for a skill player in his 30s who missed all of 2019 and has now missed 29 games in the last four seasons.

So which teams should you back in every game of the 2020 NFL season? And what does the SportsLine projection model predict will happen in the NBA, MLB, NHL and NCAA? ... Join SportsLine here to see which teams are winning more than 50 percent of simulations, all from the model that has returned more than $7,000 on its top-rated picks since its inception!

Despite those injuries, Green is still a potential game-changer. If he isn't franchise tagged, the market is likely to be robust for his services with just about any team lacking weaponry interested in a short-term deal to upgrade their receiving options in an increasingly pass-happy game. Even as age and injuries wear on the six-time 1,000-yarder, his combination of route-running prowess, hands and catch radius make him a No. 1 receiver just about anywhere in the NFL.

With that in mind, SportsLine oddsmakers have evaluated his situation and are offering lines on where he'll land if he isn't franchise tagged by Cincinnati. These odds are for informational purposes only.

Which team will A.J. Green be playing for Week 1 of the 2020 season if he isn't franchise tagged?
    Bengals Even
    Patriots +300
    Eagles +500
    49ers +600
    Packers +800
    Bills +1000
    Raiders +1200
    Seahawks +1400
    Cowboys (if Cooper leaves) +1500

Obviously if the Bengals franchise tag him, Green is incredibly likely to remain in Cincinnati. Le'Veon Bell has been just about the only player capable of leveraging a holdout into being allowed to leave in free agency and that still took him a year to accomplish, something Green doesn't have to give at 31 coming off a lost season.

However, even if the Bengals don't franchise tag him, they're the clear leaders in the clubhouse to land his services. It's the only franchise he's ever known and they have the ability to land him a new franchise quarterback as the owners of the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

But as unbelievable as Joe Burrow is and as much of a lock for NFL stardom as he appears, young quarterbacks often take time to develop in the NFL. And if Green is going to compete for a championship, that might not be time that he's willing to spend.

So if he's allowed to hit the open market, contenders like the Patriots and 49ers certainly make sense. New England has an established history of signing high-profile wide receivers and Green could enjoy a Randy Moss-like resurgence in Foxboro. Meanwhile, the 49ers need to significantly upgrade their receiving corps coming off a Super Bowl loss to the Chiefs.

Other teams that are coming off playoff seasons in need of receiving help include the Eagles and Bills. But given Carson Wentz's injury history and the uncertainty surrounding Josh Allen, those might not be the best options for Green. So we'd be inclined to lay a few units on the Bengals at even money and a couple on the 49ers for value at +600.
