Maryland vs. Northwestern odds, line: Advanced computer college football model releases spread pick for Friday's Big Ten game

SportsLine's projection model has generated selections for the matchup between the Terrapins and Wildcats

Two teams looking for their first conference victory of the season will square off when the Maryland Terrapins host the Northwestern Wildcats in a Big Ten game on Friday at SECU Stadium in College Park, Md. The Terrapins (3-2, 0-2 in Big Ten) are coming off a bye week. Prior to that, they lost 42-28 at Indiana, which ended a two-game winning streak. Meanwhile the Wildcats (2-3, 0-2) enter Friday's game having lost back-to-back games to Washington and Indiana.

Kickoff is at 8 p.m. ET. The Terrapins are 10.5-point favorites in the latest Maryland vs. Northwestern odds, while the over/under for total points scored is 45.5, up from opening at 42.5. (See up-to-date odds for every game this week on our college football odds page.)

Before making any Northwestern vs. Maryland picks or college football predictions, you NEED to see the predictions from the SportsLine Projection Model.

The model simulates every FBS college football game 10,000 times. Since its inception, it has generated a profit of well over $2,000 for $100 players on its top-rated college spread football picks since inception, and is 8-4 on top-rated picks over the past two weeks of this season. Anyone who has followed it has seen strong returns.

The model knows that Maryland has been winning the turnover battle all season. The Terrapins lead all power conference teams in turnover margin (+11). They have made eight interceptions this season, which ranks second in the Big Ten, behind only Minnesota (10), and have recovered six fumbles, which ranks second in the country among power conference teams, behind only Oklahoma (eight).

But the model also has taken into account that Northwestern has had success stopping the run so far this season. Led by all-conference linebacker Xander Mueller, the Wildcats give up just 93.2 rushing yards per game, which ranks 17th in the country. Mueller has 28 tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, four passes broken up and one fumble recovery.

For Friday, the model has set its sights on Maryland vs. Northwestern. We can tell you it is leaning Under the total, predicting a combined 45 points, and it also says one side of the spread hits in more than 50% of simulations. You ABSOLUTELY need to see it before locking in any college football picks.
